Winter Hair Advice

Winter weather is hard on your hair, there’s no question about it.
The constant change going from the heated indoors to the cold outdoors leaves your hair dry and vulnerable to damage, which means that it is more susceptible to breakage, dry scalp, and dandruff. So how do we dodge these winter nuisances?
Avoid frequent hair washes and heat styling
The more often you wash your hair, the more you strip it of its natural oils that are meant to protect it! Instead of washing it daily, or even every other day, use dry shampoo to keep your hair looking fresh and smelling great.
As much as possible, try to avoid using heat tools on your hair. Especially during the winter, since your hair is already fragile and more inclined to breakage. Instead, opt for air drying and embracing your natural hair. (There are tons of no heat hairstyle tutorials on pinterest!) Using the right product, your natural hair can be hair that you love! Curly hair? Use a curl defining cream. Frizzies? Use a smoothing balm! We have all your product needs here at Adorn Salon.
Moisturize your hair and scalp with hair oil
Dandruff antagonize you during the winter? Combat it by applying a coconut or argan oil treatment directly to your scalp. Scalp/hair oil treatments are recommended for medium to coarse hair types. Let the oil set for 20-30 minutes before your regular hair wash routine and wash it as usual. The oils replenish the moisture your scalp so desperately needs and fights off the itchy, uncomfortable flakes. If your scalp is dry or flaky and you have fine hair, try using a Scalp Scrub or a Cleansing rinse.
Dry your hair before rushing out the door
As easy as it is to leave the house before your hair is fully dry, cold hair enlarges the hair shaft, which leaves your hair more vulnerable to breakage and split ends. Try altering your routine and washing your hair at night to make sure you won’t be rushing out with wet or damp hair!
We want to you have the healthiest winter hair possible. Part of that is hair management, and part of it is using good products! If you are interested in any of the products mentioned, come see us at Adorn Salon to pick it up.
